When the first English-speaking settlers landed in Australia, they encountered one of the nicest and largest natural harbours in the world. This is where they established their first settlements, which within the next 200 years grew into Sydney, the biggest city of the fifth continent.
A HARBOUR CITY FULL OF ATTRACTIONS
Sydney is today one of the most attractive cities in the world due to a mild, warm climate and its certain charm that radiates from it. This city is the economic powerhouse and cultural metropolis of Australia. Australians affectionately call her «The Secret Capital». Sydney has its special attractions: the famous Opera House in the inner harbour, the Harbour Bridge, the well-known Sydney Aquarium, the Exhibition Centre, ‘The Rocks’ in the Darling Harbour district or the Royal Botanical Garden. A visit to Centre Point – at 305 metres the highest building of the city – is an absolute must. From its high platform you not only get a splendid view of the city but – on clear days – you can spot the Blue Mountains, with their enormous eucalyptus forests and which seem so far removed from the hectic life of the metropolis. Much closer yet – just twenty minutes from the city’s centre – you can follow a stint of shopping or visiting museums by relaxing at one of the 30 sandy beaches, watching the countless number of surfers riding giant waves. Favourite beaches are Bondi and Manly beach. With the regularly scheduled ferries going between Manly and the city you can be downtown in 30 minutes. The only real problem you may encounter during your stay in Sydney, is that time may be too short to enjoy all the attractions to their fullest!
