London is a world city, which with its resplendent buildings, its sophisticated neighbourhoods, its luxury apartments, its financial centres and its shopping malls, bears witness to the power and the historically determined cultural diversity of its inhabitants. It is hardly noticeable that London has a population of approximately 7.6 million inhabitants, a population larger than that of New York, but occupying more than twice the land area.
A CITY OF DIVERSITY
Tourist are familiar with the black taxicabs, the bustling activity of Oxford Street, or the shopping paradise of Harrods – where even the Queen sometimes goes shopping – and last but not least, the majestic Tower Bridge. If seeing “old” London has not satisfied your sense of adventure then the prestigious Docklands beckon, for its modern architecture is so phenomenal and diverse, that each and every building deserves more than just a quick glance. Lying opposite from this modern part of London in spite of this because of the zero meridian location, is the well-known area of Greenwich Time: the famous observatory crowns a hill – as if untouched by time – and overlooks traditional English brick houses, four hundred year old pubs, and the mighty Thames River, flanked by this well inter-connected world metropolis of London and connected by numerous bridges. Who could not be impressed by this commanding view? London is, and will always be, the hub of the world.
