In Northern England, less than two hours by train from Manchester, lies York, a beautiful historic town on the Ouse River. With its charming character dating back from the Middle Ages, York easily steals the heart of every visitor.
CHARM RIGHT OUT OF THE MIDDLE AGE
The town is now a tourist destination with visitors numbering about four million per year. York is also known as the town where time stood still, and has one of England’s best-preserved historic town centres with its guild houses and ‘snickleways’. In the town’s centre, crowning it all is the cathedral, one of the largest gothic cathedrals in all of Europe. Elegant shopping lanes invite visitors to window shop during the day or to visit the theaters, cinemas, cafés and tea rooms to relax. The many traditional pubs offer a colorful social program in the evenings. The surrounding rural areas of Yorkshire also have something to offer. In addition to the North York Moors in the north and the Yorkshire dales in the northwest, there are two National parks not far from the city gates.
