Moustiers is renowned for its pottery; however, this is not the only thing worth seeing in this place. The sight of The Gorges du Verdon transports you to America and evokes memories of the Grand Canyon.
SMALL AND COZY
Fields of lavender cover the landscape of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie with a violet carpet, and surrounding olive groves add to the scene of this town, imbedded in an impressive rocky panorama. A 600-meter high stone wall rises in a semi circle at the back of the little village. A star hangs from a 100 m long chain, suspended between two rocky towers high above Moustiers. Legend has it that long ago, crusading knights hung up the star. The village is known for its ceramic works, created and offered for sale in local workshops. The ‘Grand Canyon of Verdon,’ as this impressive canyon is called, ends near the Moustier reservoir called Lac de Sainte-Croix. The Verdon canyon is 21 kilometres long and 700 meters deep; it is one of the largest in Europe.
