The villagers are very sociable and it is easy to talk to them or even to make friends. Despite the rural region the Bagno di Romagna is well developed so that cities like Rome, Venice, Florence, Ravenna and Siena can be reached in a relatively short time.
A NATURE PRESERVE RIGHT AT THE FRONT DOOR
Emilia-Romagna is an intensive agriculture region. Large sugar beet and grain fields, surrounded by enormous maple and elm trees which are entwined by grapevines. There is extensive grape cultivation in the hills of the Apennines. South of Emilia Romagna, the softly undulating hills of Tuscany are covered with vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees. Bagno di Romagna is located between these two landscapes at 500 m elevation imbedded in the upper Savoy valley, an area of great natural beauty. Green is the predominant colour here. The gem of this community is the beautiful La Lama forest. The forest has a lush vegetation of striking deciduous and evergreen trees. Clear water brooks flow from forested heights. The largest part of the forest lies in the 764 hectare nature preserve, Sasso Fratino, located within the boundaries of the district of Bagno di Romagna. Two kilometres away from Bagno lies the village of San Piero, the main town of the area. In ancient times, the water of the Bagnon di Romagna was already highly valued. The first thermal bath was constructed during Roman times. Today, Bagno di Romagna, with three thermal baths, is a well known spa resort. At 45o C the water comes to the rocky surface from a depth of 8 metres .
