Directly located on the Adriatic coast, Cervia has an abundance of peace and tranquillity. The beautiful beaches nearby are ideal for sunbathing and with the old town’s charming cafes it is a great place to relax.
THE SALT OF LIFE
This little town with approximately 30,000 inhabitants lies on the coast between Ravenna and Rimini. Cervia is surrounded by many beaches including Milano Marittima, Pinarella and Tagliata. The city is famous for its salt works where some of Italy's best salt is mined. Thanks to its high purity and the somewhat sweet taste, the spice is very popular. Due to its rich salt resources, Cervia was often fought over during the Middle Ages. It was also said at that time that you could get more out of this one town than the whole region combined. The dense pine forests nearby are the region’s green lung. Extensive hiking trails meander through the forests and salt marshes, which still form an important centre for salt production. However, you should not pay a visit to Cervia only because of the salt, the great wines of the region, the fresh fish from the Adriatic and the delicious recipes are also culinary highlights.
