Although one can really enjoy the beautiful sea and the charming old town here, Salerno doesn't just offer peace and relaxation to visitors. Alternatively, there is much to do and discover, because the city and the entire region have so much to offer.
Salerno is located south, just below the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Steep cliffs, crystal clear water and picturesque villages that were expertly planted on green hills overlooking the sea, are typical for the region. Salerno is strongly connected with its history and it is not surprising that one can still marvel at buildings, and items from bygone days. The old town, the Romanesque cathedral and the castle of the Lombard princes are just a few fixed points that visitors are should not miss under any circumstances. Salerno is also a perfect base for exploring the region. Towns such as Amalfi, Positano, Naples, the Capri and Ischia islands are easily accessible from here as well as one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the region - Pompeii. The city was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius more than 2000 years ago. Ash from the volcano buried the city completely at that time, but in the 16th Century Pompeii was completely rebuilt and is now a World Heritage Site.
