MEXICO – A DREAM DESTINATION FOR MILLIONS
Mythic Mexico has an irresistible appeal for foreign travellers; it is a country of fiestas, tacos and tortillas, deserts and joie de vivre. Mexicans celebrate wherever and whenever possible. The bullfights, or the native markets with dazzling colours, are proof as to the Mexican temperament and a Mexican’s love of life. Great American novelists such as Tennessee Williams or John Steinbeck wrote enthusiastically about their never-ending fascination for Mexico. This country of two million square kilometres is a land of enthralling diversity, full of contrasts and contradictions. Take for example the pine forests and banana plantations, the verdant green fields and arid deserts, or the desolation of the Sierra mountains compared with the scenes of chaotic crowds and confusion in Mexico’s capital of millions of people; these are all part of Mexico’s reality. Mexico’s culture is just as colourful as Mexico’s natural world, and Mexican art, architecture and literature reflect this abundantly. The ancient civilizations of this country have left spectacular reminders of former times.

IN THE LAND OF THE MAYA
Mexico was once the home country of the Olmecs, the Maya, and Aztecs, just to mention the most important of the many aboriginal cultures of Mexico. Impressive testimonials of these highly developed cultures are well preserved in many places or have been meticulously restored. The Yucatan peninsula was the Maya’s main dwelling place. The impressive city ruins of Uxmal, Chichen Itza, and Tulum are found here; all of these ruins testify to the greatness of the Mayan culture. Visiting these historical sites and learning more about the fascinating history of the Maya is a rewarding experience. Even today, Mayan culture still has many unsolved mysteries that puzzle scholars.
