About twenty minutes north of San Diego lies La Jolla, the Californian holiday destination par excellence. With Mount Soledad separating it from the interior of California, and lying directly on the shores of the Pacific, San Diego owes its popularity to its caves located in the steep cliffs, which are particularly popular among divers and snorkelers.
NON-STOP HOLIDAY ATMOSPHERE
The long, sandy white beaches also attract water sport enthusiasts from around the world. In La Jolla, a party atmosphere reigns the whole year round making this small city the embodiment of the “California Dream”. La Jolla – meaning ‘the jewel’ – entices the young, the young at heart, students, and artists who gather in the small charming cafés, or who wander around downtown to do some shopping. Aside from the cultural attractions or the many cinemas, there are many possibilities to pursue many types of sports, such as golf, tennis, and surfing. The bicycle is a very favoured means of transportation here, and consequently, is well set up for cyclists. Consider taking a side trip into nearby Balboa Park, or even going further on a jaunt across the border into Mexico. Such a trip will prove to be a change from La Jolla’s interesting but somewhat easy-going style.
